Candle Burning Tips
- The first time you light a Smitten Scents candle, don't trim your wick as it is already the ideal length. It is SUPER DUPER important to always give them a good first burn. Ideally you want the liquefied wax to have reached the inside ring of the glass jar. This avoids unnecessary wastage of the candles wax and an even burn all the way down the jar; extending your candle’s lifetime!
- Always allow candles to cool before relighting.
- Trim your wicks after each burn, but not too short (only trim the “carbon ball” off the end. Smitten Scents are made with soy, which requires extra heat for a complete burn.
- Discontinue burning jar candles when there is 1cm of wax left in the bottom. Soy wax can be cleaned up easily with soap and water!
- When extinguishing a candle, don't blow it out. Use a wick dipper or your Smitten Snuffer Lid (available on Apothecary Jars only) or the lid of your Smitten Scents Mason Jar to avoid smoke and the disruption of your "now Smittenly" home. Also rest assured that by doing this the wick has been coated with just the right amount of wax for the next burn! Remember…snuff, don’t blow!
- NEVER EVER EVER leave a burning candle unattended.
- Do not burn candles in a draft. Not only does it put you at enormous risk from items like curtains or papers blowing into your lit candle and causing a fire, it can also cause your wick to shift towards the glass jar which will result in a burnt and sooty black jar (yuck!).
- BURN TIMES: Small Mason: 50 Hours, Large Mason: 80 Hours, Medium Apothecary: 80 Hours, Large Apothecary: 120 Hours, Smelts: 20 Hours. Please note some of our products list INCORRECT burn times as we had way underestimated them. We apologize for this and can assure you the burn times listed above are totally accurate.
Uses for Jars After Burning:
After you’ve used your Smitten Scents candle simply remove any remaining wax with warm, soapy water. Some clever ideas for re-use of our gorgeous vintage jars include:
- Storing Bathroom Items: cotton buds, eye make-up remover pads, buttons, safety & nappy pins, hair accessories, bath salts etc.
- Storing Office Items: Pencil/pens/crayons, binder clips, paper clips, spare USB’s, sticky tape rolls, pretty ribbons for gift wrapping
- Storing Kitchen/Food items: nuts, lollies, chocolates, chips, jams.
Smitten suggests using our screw top mason jars for food items (to ensure freshness) and our apothecary jars for Bathroom and Office items.

In no event shall Smitten Scents be liable for any direct, indirect, special, punitive, incidental, exemplary or consequential damages, or any damages whatsoever, including loss of income or revenue, even if Smitten has been previously advised of the possibility of such damages, whether in an action under contract, negligence or any other theory, arising out of or in connection with the use, inability to use, or performance of the information, services, products, and materials available.
